“Green-tea flavored coke vs. Basil-flavored Pepsi: which one would you prefer?”

Japan has been famous for producing strange but rather healthy food products like: corn on pizza, rice and tofu donuts, 0% alcohol beer, and soy sauce for ice cream.

And now Coca-cola bottlers Japan is releasing a brand new flavor hitting Japan this June; “Green Tea-flavored Coke”! Spokesman Katsuya Sato said that the new product contains tea antioxidants called Catechins, which leaves a slight green tea aftertaste.

The new flavored Coke is set to target health-conscious women in their 20s to 30s, Sato said.

They wanted to cater to people who are looking for a healthy alternative to sodas, which tastes good but is also good for the health and beauty, he said.

Coca Cola is the leader in Japan’s cola market but faces stiff competition from non-carbonated bottled drinks like tea, coffee and fruit juices.

On the other hand, rival Pepsi cola is countering with another exotic cola—Japanese basil-flavored “Pepsi Shiso”.

Most Japanese, being health conscious people might think twice in consuming cola products. But if these cola producers say are true, then I guess it’s good for you and me. Anyway you be the judge.

I just wonder what the Japanese will think of next.

That was interesting; for a person who likes drinking soda, I actually laughed that the Japs actually thought of having a green-tea flavored coke and basil-flavored pepsi. That’s cool!

It’s strange, but it might actually taste good. Since I’m staying here in Japan I’ll let you guys know what it taste like once I buy one.
